Double-decker train service in between Hyderabad and Guntur begins in style

Passengers in between Guntur and Hyderabad  can now travel  in the comfort of air-conditioned luxury coaches in the newly introduced double decker superfast express train.
The bi-weekly train (No. 22117) starts from Guntur at 12.45 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday and reaches Kachiguda at 5.55 p.m.
Besides the cushy luxury seats with ample legroom, passengers can relish a spread of their favourite dishes and work on their laptops on the pads provided for each seat.
But the USP of the coaches is the upper decks from which passengers can have a nice view of various landscapes as the train passes through.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Guntur, C. Ramakrishna said that the double deck would have 120 seats in lower and upper decks. The fare for each ticket is Rs. 415 and it is Rs. 520 per seat in Tatkal reservation.
The train has just four stops — Piduguralla (1.45 p.m.), Miryalguda (2.35 p.m.), Nalgonda (3 p.m.) and Malkajgiri (5.40 p.m.) — before reaching Kachiguda at 5.55 p.m.
The train would start from Kachiguda on every Tuesday and Friday at 5.30 a.m. and would reach Guntur at 10.40 a.m.
Mr. Ramakrishna said that the new train has been provided with the latest safety features, including a unique VESDA system (Very Early Smoke/Fire Detection with Alarm System). VESDA is being introduced in a double-decker train for the first time in Indian Railways.

Temporary capital likely between Guntur and Vijayawada

A ‘temporary’ capital is likely to come up between Guntur and Vijayawada shortly and the infrastructure at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) and APSP Battalion at Mangalagiri could be used to house the administrative machinery.
A senior official told The Hindu on Monday that the region could be in the reckoning for a temporary capital soon after the new Government is sworn in. The model, design and various plans for building a new capital region would be worked out in the coming months.
The expert committee constituted by Government of India to explore various options had a micro assessment of the region around the temple town of Mangalagiri, the rail and road connectivity and made a survey of the availability of reserved forest land with the help of Google maps.
Surrounded by six-lane national highway on one side and Guntur-Vijayawada rail line on the other side, the place was being actively considered as an ideal choice.

The Union finance minister has finally approved the cadre restructuring in the central board of excise and customs (CBEC). The cadre restructuring was in the pipeline for seven years. With the approval, over 18,000 new posts are expected to be created in the department across the country.

In Gujarat, four new commissionerates are likely to be added in the Ahmedabad zone. Presently there are 10 commisionerates of central excise, one of service tax and three commissionerates of appeals in Ahmedabad and Vadodara zones.

According to sources, the new commissionerates are expected to be three of audit, one each with Ahmedabad I, II and III commissionerates and a new central excise commissioner in Kutch. At present, Kutch comes under the Jamnagar commissionerate. Meanwhile, no new commissionerates are likely to be added in the service tax or customs in Gujarat. The Ahmedabad zone covers all of north and central Gujarat and Saurashtra.

NMC urged 7th Pay Commission to recommend 20% Interim relief

Also demanded merger of 50 per cent DA with the basic pay-pension and enhancement of retirement age of 62 years in case of central government employees

National Mazdoor Conference today urged the chairman of the newly-constituted 7th pay commission to recommend 20 per cent interim relief in favour of both central and state government employees.
“We urge the chairman of the 7th pay commission that it should recommend to the new Central government (after the election) to accord the interim relief in favor of both central and state government employees and pensioners to the tune of 20 per cent interim relief in basic pay,” NMC president Subash Shastri said in a memorandum sent to the chairman of 7th pay commission.
These recommendation should be made soon after lifting up Model Code of Conduct, he said.
He also demanded merger of 50 per cent DA with the basic pay-pension and enhancement of retirement age of 62 years in case of central government employees.
Shastri emphasised that whenever the recommendation of the commission are submitted to the Central government, the Commission should extend these recommendations to the state governments in general and Jammu and Kashmir in particular.
He batted strongly for commencement of the negotiations with representatives of Associations, unions and Federations of Central government employees and pensioners so that report could be submitted within stipulated period.
“Since twenty months left to complete pay commission report, it has been urged to the chairman and other members of the 7th pay commission to pay visit to all states of the country to obtain views of state governments employees and pensioners organisations,” he said.
Shastri also urged the chairman to formulate National Pay policy for both central and state government employees and pensioners, adding that the 7th pay commission should be declared as the National pay commission.
